Around the World in 2 – a few occasional off-breaks

Each week for Mason & Guests I compile and broadcast a brief summary of cricket events outside the Caribbean, with a few “Did You Know, Andrew?” facts thrown in. Here’s this week’s round-up:

“The 7-match ODI series between India & Australia was won 3-2 by India. Rohit Sharma scored 209 in the deciding game, his 2nd century of the series. Virat Kohli also scored 2 centuries in the series & goes to the top of the ICC ODI batting rankings.

“In Australia, England drew the opening match of their Ashes tour v A Western Australian XI. Their 2nd warm up game starts this evening v Australia A.”

This week’s question: who is the only West Indian Test cricketer to be born in England?

“Pakistan & South Africa are 1-1 in their 5-match ODI series. Pakistan won the 1st game by 1 run; Pakistan won the 2nd by 66 runs.

“Bangladesh beat New Zealand 3-0 in their ODI series. They now play a single T20 match.

“WI women lost their 3-match ODI series to England women 2-0 after the 1st match was washed out.

“West Indies drew their opening tour match v Uttar Pradesh with Chanderpaul scoring 112 & Powell, Darren Bravo, Deonarine, Gayle & Samuels all recording 50s. The 1st Test begins tonight at 11.30pm. Coverage starts as advertised at 10.20pm on ESPN Caribbean & ESPN Play.”

The answer to this week’s quiz question: Courtney Browne, who was born in Lambeth, London on December 7th, 1970.

The Mason & Guests show is broadcast live on Tuesday’s from 6.15-8pm ECT (10.15-midnight GMT)  on Voice of Barbados 92.9fm and can be heard via numerous internet tune-in services.
