Picking the Spin from the Rough – stuff well worth reading
A selection of items I’ve recently come across I think you might enjoy.
I’ve been reading through this quarter’s online edition of The Nightwatchman (thoroughly recommended! – you can subscribe here). In it was an excellent item by Vaneisa Baksh about the enduring delight and magic of radio cricket commentary in the Caribbean, especially that of Tony Cozier and Reds Perreira. An earlier version of that article appeared previously on ESPN Cricinfo. You can read it here.
In the UK’s Daily Mail this week Charles Sale drew attention to the link between Chris Jordan (Barbados, Surrey and England) and Rihanna. The answer: they were at school together. You can read the item here.
On Cricket Country there were a couple of nice pieces about current West Indies cricketers. Nishad Pai Vaidya penned a profile of Marlon Samuels, which can find here; and Bharath Ramaraj recalls Dwayne Smith’s debut Test century v South Africa here.
Finally, from November of last year, the MCC website carries an interesting feature on the paintings of three of the greats of West Indies: Sir Garfield Sobers, Sir Vivian Richards and Brian Lara, at Lord’s cricket ground. You can be fully in the picture here.
