Fantasist Cricket League

Clips to the on-side.

Australian, Dennis Freedman’s Can’t Bowl, Can’t Throw is a funny, entertaining, often irreverent podcast. And occasionally he tackles really juicy cricket issues. His latest podcast manages to be simultaneously serious and genuinely amusing.

Dennis has interviewed Roy Singh, who is a convicted fraudster, and an absurd fantasist trying to set up a Canadian Premier League T20 competition.

You can listen to it here:

Of the biggest concern to us here in the Caribbean is the potential involvement of West Indian cricketers. Shiv Chanderpaul, Dwayne Bravo, Denesh Ramdin and Kieran Powell have all apparently signed up as partners.

Oh dear!

My favourite bit from the interview is the following:

RS: “In the past cricket hasn’t been taken seriously in Canada. My objective here is to let the world know we’re serious and we’re coming!”

DF: “Let’s talk about how this’ll all work. You state there’s going to be 10 teams. Where are they gonna come from and where are they gonna play?”

RS: “That’s a good question, actually.” [Which he then proceeds not to answer.]

You can find the other CPL’s website here:

And here’s Peter Della Penna’s recent profile of the venture:

I wouldn’t invest in this if this were a Fantasy League, let alone yet another T20 tournament.
