The Willow in the WIndies – bat no. 3

14th August 2015

The Caribbean cricket podcast

Episode 3 – WIndies Cricket Development with Roland Butcher

Welcome to edition no.3 of The Willow in the WIndies.

Joining me in this week’s edition is former England batsman and Head of Sport at the University of the West Indies (UWI) in Barbados, (and patron of this blog!) Mr. Roland Butcher.

We discussed the preponderance of limited overs cricket for the young in the region and, conversely, the relative lack of domestic 50 over cricket for the senior players.

We examined the issues affecting WIndies’ IPL players appearing for the Test and ODI side and wondered if we’d see them in maroon again?

We also looked at the influence of two great men who Roland has worked with: UWI Vice-Chancellor Professor Sir Hilary Beckles; and former England captain Mike Brearley.

And of course we looked at England’s Ashes victory.
