The Caribbean cricket podcast
Welcome to edition no.11 of The Willow in the WIndies.
This week Reds and I looked at West Indies’ warm-up match ahead of the 1st Test v Sri Lanka; and we both picked our own teams for the game.
We discussed the implications of the postponement of Phil Simmons’ disciplinary hearing; and the suggestion that there may be disharmony within the WIndies selection panel.
We looked at the WI Women’s preparations for their home series v Pakistan; and the input from Darren Sammy and coach Vasbert Drakes.
We heard about Adam Sanford’s efforts in the USA to bring help and aid to his native Dominica in the wake of recent tropical storm devastation.
We also recalled another fine Dominican, Norbert Phillip who had success with both Essex and West Indies.
Reds shared his memories of the recently deceased Steve Camacho, who played for Guyana and West Indies – and was a very highly regarded Secretary and CEO of the WICB.
And we discussed Brian Lara’s possible involvement in the Shane Warne/Sachin Tendulkar exhibition T20 matches in the USA in November; when temperatures will be between 8-10 degrees and ticket prices are $50-350. I wondered whether the event was a white elephant? I also asked Reds whether he felt the WIndies should be involved in promoting cricket in North America?
