A Willow in the WIndies Xtra – The Caribbean Cricket Civil War: a view from the ‘observation post’ with Terry Bent

The Caribbean cricket podcast

Midweek Edition: The Caribbean Cricket Civil War

Welcome to this extra edition of The Willow in the WIndies.

I was joined for this xtra podcast by fellow ‘Barbadian’ Brit, Terry Bent, the author of the blog dedicated to the Barbados Tridents CPL side; and a regular panelist on the Mason & Guests cricket talk show on the island. In fact, Terry was part of the panel recently for a heated edition which you can hear here, and which Tony Cozier wrote about for ESPN Cricinfo, that you can read here.

The subject of contention was the ongoing crisis in Caribbean cricket between the international players and the WICB: murky waters into which some Caricom political leaders have waded, and some West Indies cricket Legends too.

Terry and I looked at the issues in the dispute, its background, and likely outcomes.

We also took time to look at the Barbados Tridents, and in particular the implications of Dr Vijay Mallya’s ongoing travails – and whether they would impact upon the Tridents’ involvement in this season’s CPL competition.

You can listen to our discussion here.
